Wynn of the Zaishen Menagerie
Heres my situtation and question.
I charmed a lvl 3 tiger outside of shing jea. Brought it to the Menagerie and deposited it there. This is my 1st canthan pet ive put into there. I went to Wynn wanting a lvl 20 ver of it. Wynn wouldnt give me an option to spawn me any tier, she would just tell me where it was. I've deposited some of my lvl 20 pets on my characters and I could spawn those but not this one Do I hve to train every single pet to lvl 20 for Wynn to spawn one for me? Simple answer: Yes
It would be a bit too easy charming a lv 3/5 pet and getting a lv 20 one of any evolutions you want already without any time spend ^^ |

There's an npc in the menagerie that can unlock evolutions/tiers whatever. You have to pay in Balth faction or zaishen coins + gold IIRC. Then you can go back to wynn to spawn the pet with the unlocked evolution/tier.
So in short no, you don't need to train at all if you pay. Last edited by Perfected Shadow; May 25, 2009 at 10:44 AM // 10:44.. Reason: coins not keys |

You can just sit there and death level the pets super fast without the need for paying to unlock the evolutions. It's not exactly hard with a pvp necro and a mesmer hero.
The idea is that you can spawn what you already had, or the equivalent other evolution of what you had so that it can be available on any other character and so you can use a better evolution. You don't suddenly get a pet and then you have a better pet without having to spend time to level it. It's not like you can create a character and then suddenly upgrade it to lvl 20 without having to do anything. |

You have to have a level 12 version of a pet 'saved' in the Menagerie before Wynn will spawn one for you to charm. Even then, you only have access to a level 12 pet with the evolution you 'saved'. So if you take a level 12 Playful Tiger to the Menagerie, Wynn will only let you charm a level 12 Playful, Aggressive, or Elder Tiger. You get all 3 evolution options since they are all scaled on unlock. Once you can get Wynn to spawn a pet for you, you now have the ability to death level them. This requires you to take a hero to rez you, as there are no rez shrines in the menagerie. But as noted, you can also use Balth Faction or z-keys and gold to unlock evolutions. Only pet you can't death level is the Rainbow Pheonix as it won't spawn unless you are alone.

you need to unlock pet tiers.
if you unlock only the lowest tier of a pet, you can't get it be, but you can charm it at level 5 somewhere in you ZM island. |

Yep, as others have said, you have to level an animal to 20 to unlock all the evolutions of that animal. You can get higher lvls from the trainer if you deposit a pet that is lvl 12 or lvl 15 or lvl 20. If you drop off a pet that's less than level 12, you'll only be able to get the level 5 version that wanders the menagerie.
Don't worry though, I've been able to level an animal up from level 5 to level 20 in a little over 20 minutes using heroes, pretty consistently I might add, inside the menagerie, so getting all your animals to level 20 is really quite easy now. |
